Gemstone prices — FAQs
Why is there a price range instead of one rate?
Unlike gold, gemstones have no single market rate. Two stones of the same weight can differ many times in price because of colour, clarity, cut, size, origin, treatment (heating, oiling, filling) and the lab certificate.
How many carats are in one ratti?
Gem dealers in Pakistan commonly use 1 ratti ≈ 0.91 carat (and 1 carat = 0.2 gram). Jewellers' traditional ratti for gold is a different, smaller weight — always ask which ratti a seller means.
How can I be sure a gemstone is real?
Ask for a certificate from an accredited gemmological laboratory that states whether the stone is natural, synthetic or treated. Expensive stones should always be certified.
Does Pakistan produce gemstones?
Yes — Pakistan is known for emeralds from Swat, peridot from Kohistan, aquamarine, tourmaline and topaz from Gilgit-Baltistan, pink topaz from Katlang (Mardan), and ruby and spinel from Hunza.
Prices are indicative ranges for the Pakistani market and are not an offer to buy or sell. Always get a written quote and a lab certificate.
